Every track is spot-on. This is cavernous and therefore dark and crushing but thanks to the perfect production of Those Who Dwell in the Fire it is also quite hypnotic to me. There is such beauty in darkness! Love the rhthym section. Be warned: this will not let you go easily.

Pyra, the Black / Death Metal formation from Italy is back after an excellent self-titled debut EP in late 2022. The band now presents their 1st full length album entitled: Those Who Dwell in the Fire. The album is clearly a follow up on their EP as their sound gets more explored and pushed even further into the depts of a Black & Death Metal combination.
The production is very aggressive, yet, very clear with the guitars riffing raw rhythm chords and clear melodies in combination with a filthy bass undertone that gives you “almost” that brutal (slam) death metal sound. The drums are pounding furious from beginning till the end with a bone crushing snare that compliments the bass tones in the production, where the vocals are sounding more low and wicked than ever before. The stench of Death Metal in a Black Metal jacket is present on this one!
We already acknowledged the musicianship of Pyra on their self-titled EP, however, one can rest assure that with “Those Who Dwell in the Fire” the band shows us that they are far from done and reached an even higher level in both writing and production!
All there is left to say is: that this is one Beast of a Record that every Death and Black Metal fans should own in their collection!

So after spending the better part of the last 2 years going as hard as possible at every extreme metal show I could on the US East Coast, you could say I'm burned out on death metal music lol. I'm sorry, but after seeing hundreds of great bands - shit just seems kind of same-y to me, you know? So it takes something really special to bring me back into the death metal fold. Fossilization are my boys & this is an amazing work of art. I cannot recommend it enough. Now... back to my Coltrane 😂🤣

Gaerea's first release of "Unsettling Whispers" was in 2018, and since, they dared define a "black metal" niche of their own, they dared to walk a new path and stir shit up a bit in the realm of BM, this album is a masterpiece and a milestone proving that it can be done, provided the band can pull it off, and they did, oh they did! Gloomy, dark, post-BM sludgy whatever, it's Gaerea, and this one belongs in my BC collection, the end.
